$177m Additional Fund From World Bank To Raise Electricity Supply

The World Bank provides $177 million additional financing for the under-construction 335 megawatts combined cycle power plant at Siddhirganj near Dhaka. The combined cycle technology allows the plant to produce higher energy with lower gas consumption and reduces carbon emission.The plant will account for 6 percent of the total electricity delivered to the national grid and the commercial operation will start  in 2016.

World Bank Bringing Solar Energy To Rural Bangladesh

World Bank (WB) signed a $15 million grant agreement with Bangladesh government to increase access to solar home-systems (SHS) electricity for targeted 1.1 million low-income households--living in rural areas. The grant will also facilitate investments in solar pumped irrigation to 6,600 farmers and provide clean cooking solutions for 10,000 households through biogas plants.
