Grameenphone Returns Unused Balance Of Connections That Were Blocked In Between 2008 And 2014

Grameenphone yesterday deposited Tk 7.33 crore with the telecom regulator against the unused balance of connections that were blocked in between 2008 and 2014. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission had blocked 2,540,666 SIMs of the market leader in the six years to December 31, 2014. The operator will now be eligible to resell these blocked numbers.

Grameenphone Sought Permission To Set Up Tower Company

Grameenphone has sought permission from the telecom regulator to establish a subsidiary company for its network infrastructure such as towers, energy equipment, and civil works, following the footsteps of Robi and Banglalink. Given the BTRC's policy of encouraging infrastructure sharing, Grameenphone now wants to establish the subsidiary, according to the application sent last week.

Grameenphone’s Share of Active Subscriber Expanded By 4%

Grameenphone's share of active subscribers has expanded by 4 percentage points after biometric re-registration, cementing its position as the market leader. Between January and August this year, the market saw active subscribers drop by 11.89 percent to 11.78 crore. It lost 21.72 lakh active connections, but its market share widened to 46.29 percent in August from 42.39 percent in January.

Telecom Regulator Asked Grameenphone To Pay Fine In 10 Days

The telecom regulator yesterday asked Grameenphone to pay Tk 30 crore in fine within the next 10 days for providing broadband internet service by flouting rules through its sister concern Go Broadband. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission slapped the fine last week. Grameenphone also failed to comply with the relevant guideline and directives of the BTRC's infrastructure and facility sharing.
