More Internet Blackouts In Offing: BTRC

Internet users will face more internet blackouts for short durations at places across the country as the telecom regulatory body continues its exercise to assess capacity to disconnect the internet in case of emergencies. The internet blackout will be held anytime after midnight or on holidays so that internet users face no problem, said BTRC vice chairman Ahsan Habib Khan.

BTRC Unveils GIS Map Of Nationwide Optical Fibre

The telecom regulator has developed web-based interactive GIS map of optical fibre laid across the country, which shows district-upazila-union level connectivity and technical aspects of the optical fibre cable. Chairman of the regulator --Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission -- Shahjahan Mahmood today came up with the announcement of unveiling the GIS (Geographical Information System) map at a press conference at BTRC.

BTRC Directs Operators To Protect Cellphone Users’ Biometric Data

BTRC has asked all the mobile phone operators to ensure the protection of the data given by their respective subscribers. BTRC has already sent a letter of directive to the mobile phone operators. The letter directs that operators will preserve mobile phone users’ biometric data only in 'Operators’ biometric Verification Platforms and Central Biometric Verification Monitoring Platform.

Customers can lodge complaints with the telecom regulator by dialing 2872 if they fail to get any remedy from operators. Soon, BTRC will appoint a firm that will run a call centre to allow any telecom subscriber to file complaints. At present, subscribers can file complaints against any operator on the regulator's website or by sending an e-mail to BTRC.

Bangla Phone Illegal: BTRC

BTRC has requested customers not to subscribe to Bangla Phone since the company doesn’t have a Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) and has not renewed their ISP license. Moreover, some of Bangla Phone’s institutional subscribers have availed illegal fiber optic network transmission services.
