The first-ever National Demo Day was held to connect startups with a host of local and foreign investors on 25 May 2017. To inspire startup culture across the country the government awarded ten Bangladeshi technology-based startups. Under the umbrella of the Startup Bangladesh, National Demo Day and Bangladesh StartUp Awards were held together to award the top startups and allow startups to meet investor, policy makers, and other stakeholders.
4 out of the 13 top startups are from the past or ongoing batch of GPAccelerator. These are Sheba.xyz, Repto, Socian, and JolPi. GPAccelerator is currently inviting applications for the 4th batch of the program. Tech based startups with a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) can apply through www.grameenphoneaccelerator.com/apply until 8 July 2017.
Access to Information (a2i) of the Prime Minister’s Office of the Government of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) had partnered up with the ICT Division and BetterStories Limited to make the first ever national demo day and Bangladesh StartUp Awards 2017 successful. A Thailand-based tech conference called Techsauce Global Summit, Silicon Valley-based globally celebrated startup UBER, GP Accelerator and Venture Capital and Private Equity Association of Bangladesh (VCPEAB) were also the partners of this important initiative.
The top 3 investable StartUps were awarded to HandyMama, Sheba.xyz & JolPi. All of them have received tickets to the Techsauce Global Summit in July. The Winner, Handymama, has received all-expenses paid the ticket to the contest to pitch against a host of global contestants. The expenses covered are airfare, accommodation, access to pitching ground and a booth at the summit.
The National Winner of Bangladesh StartUp Award was Sheba.xyz. The top Woman Startup was awarded to Birds of Paradise. 8 other startups received awards as the top Divisional startups.
Beautiful Barisal was the winner from Barisal, Journeymakerjobs from Sylhet and Repto won the award from Chittagong Division. IamTeamBD was the winner from Khulna, Ananda Multimedia from Mymensingh, JBD IT from Rajshahi, Socian from Rangpur and bdtax.com from Dhaka division.
All the ten winners of Bangladesh StartUp Award received a crest and a cash prize equivalent to 1lac BDT.
