“BLUEPRINTS 1.0” is a national financial modeling competition organized by the Finance Club of North South University. The workshop was for the first round of the event which was held on 7th November. The intention of this competition was to encourage the young minds on the potential opportunities in the financial sector of the country. BLUEPRINTS 1.0 was equipped with 156 teams with more than 600 participants from around the country. The workshop was conducted in two sessions.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Khan Md. Saqiful Alam, a Financial Risk and Insurance Management faculty of North South University, Mr. Khandaker Safwan Saad, the deputy head researcher of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Ltd and Mohammad Kashif Choudhury, Assistant Vice President of LightCastle Partners.
Mr. Khan Md. Saqiful Alam started the first session of the workshop with concepts like strategic alignment, valuation methods, discounted cash flows, net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) and other tools needed to approach financial cases. He also discussed the beauty of finance that exists in the myriads confusions and complex cases. Khan Md. Saqiful Alam also talked about Sir Harry Markowitz’s portfolio theory.
Mr. Khandaker Safwan Saad, the deputy head researcher of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Ltd led the second session of the event. He discussed different types of valuation analysis techniques and showed examples of forecasting various financial statements. Having worked in cement and pharmaceutical industries, he was also able to discuss some real life scenarios. He also stated that familiarity with applied skills is very important in the finance sector.
The final speaker of the workshop was Mr. Mohammad Kashif Choudhury of LightCastle Partners. He presented the first round case page by page. He also talked about the fictional details. Mohammad Kashif Choudhury chatted about all the previous concepts addressed by all the previous speakers to provide an overall idea in a nutshell.
The launch of the nation’s first financial modeling competition has been met with overwhelming response with total 156 teams (members of 4) from all over Bangladesh participating in the first round. BLUEPRINTS 1.0 is now currently in its second round with the top 3o teams battling out for the final stage and the glory. The champion is set to win a prize money of BDT 200,000, the first runners up will take home BDT 100,000 and the second runners up will follow with BDT 50,000. All the finalist participants will also be shortlisted for employment by the financial institutions involved.
